What to say on hearing thunder

Remembrance 1
WE RELATE FROM the book of at-Tirmidhī with a weak isnād from Ibn ‘Umar Honorific symbol, who related that when the Messenger of Allah Honorific symbol heard the sound of thunder or a thunderbolt he would say: “O Allah, do not kill us through Your anger and do not destroy us through Your punishment; and keep us well before that [can happen].”  [1].

Remembrance 2
We relate in the Muwaṭṭa’ with a ṣaḥīḥ isnād from ‘Abdullāh ibn az-Zubayr Honorific symbol who reported that when the Messenger of Allah Honorific symbol heard thunder he stopped talking and said: “Glory be to Him Whose praise the thunder and the angels celebrate, in fear of Him.”  [2].Imam ash-Shāfi‘ī, may Allah have mercy on him, said in al-Umm with a ṣaḥīḥ isnād from Ṭāwūs, the great Tābi‘ī Imam Honorific symbol, that he used to say upon hearing the thunder, “Glory be to the One you praise!”

Subḥāna-lladhī yusabbiḥu-r-ra‘du bi-ḥamdihi wa-l-malā’ikatu min khīfatih.
Remembrance 3
Ash-Shāfi‘ī said that it was as though he were adhering to what Allah Honorific symbol says: “And the thunder celebrates His praises, as do the angels, in fear of Him.”  [3].

They mention that Ibn ‘Abbās Honorific symbol said: “We were with ‘Umar Honorific symbol on a journey. We experienced lightning, thunder and cold. Ka‘b told us: ‘Whoever says, when he hears thunder: Glory be to Him whose praise the thunder and the angels celebrate in fear of Him thrice will be protected from that thunder.’ We said it, and we were protected.” [4].
