Chapter 181

What to say upon seeing a village which one does, or does not, wish to enter

Remembrance 1
WE RELATE FROM the Sunan of an-Nasā’ī and the book of Ibn as-Sunnī that Ṣuhayb Honorific symbol related that the Prophet Honorific symbol did not see any village he was about to enter without saying: “O Allah, Lord of the Seven Heavens and all that they give shade to and the Seven Earths and all that they carry; Lord of the demons and those whom they lead astray, and Lord of the winds and all that they blow away. I ask You for the good of this village and the good of its people and the good that is in it. We seek Your protection from its evil and the evil of its people and the evil that is in it.” [1].

We relate from the book of Ibn as-Sunnī that ‘Ā’ishah Honorific symbol said: “When the Messenger of Allah Honorific symbol looked upon a region he was about to enter he would say, ‘O Allah, I ask for the good in this and the good You have gathered in it, and I seek refuge from its evil and the evil You have gathered in it. Allah, give us our provision from it, protect us from its diseases, and endear us to its inhabitants, and endear us to the righteous amongst them.’”
